How to copy trade on Hyperliquid, step by step

Every trade on Hyperliquid is public, so you can follow any trader you like. Here is how copying actually works, the ways to do it, and how to set it up in a few taps.

Short answer

To copy trade on Hyperliquid, pick a trader's address, then mirror each trade they open and close, at a size you choose. You can do it by hand, through a vault, through an exchange that offers it, or with an app like CopyHype, where you tap Copy on a trader in Telegram and their next trades happen for you at your amount, at least $5 a trade. Start with practice money, and remember the amount you put in each trade is the most it can lose.

Hyperliquid is a perpetual futures exchange that runs on its own blockchain. That detail matters for copy trading. On a normal exchange, you cannot see what other accounts do. On Hyperliquid, every account is an address, and every position, fill and profit of that address is public. Anyone can open a trader's page and see what they hold right now.

So copying is possible without asking anyone. The hard parts are elsewhere: picking who to copy, getting in fast enough, sizing so one bad trade does not hurt, and getting out when they get out.

What does copy trading on Hyperliquid mean?

Copy trading means your account opens the same trade as another trader, on the same coin and in the same direction, at a size you choose, and closes it when they close. You do not share an account with them, and they do not know you copy them.

A Hyperliquid trade has four parts you can copy:

  • The coin, for example BTC, ETH, SOL or HYPE.
  • The direction: long (a bet the price goes up) or short (a bet it goes down).
  • The multiplier, also called leverage. At x5, a 1% move counts 5% for you, up or down.
  • The timing: when they open, when they add, when they take part off, when they close.

The size is yours. A whale might open a $2 million position. You might copy it with $20.

Which ways are there to copy a Hyperliquid trader?

There are four: copy by hand, deposit into the trader's vault, use an exchange's copy trading, or use a copy trading app or bot. They differ on who holds your money and how much control you keep.

Method Who holds the money Control Effort
By hand, watching a tracker You Full High, you must be awake
Hyperliquid vault The vault, run by its leader Low, the leader trades the pool Low
Exchange copy trading The exchange Medium Low
Copy app or bot, like CopyHype You, in your own wallet Per trade size, exits, stop Low

We compare these in detail in ways to copy Hyperliquid traders. Here we focus on the last one, because it is what most people mean by Hyperliquid copy trading.

How do I copy trade on Hyperliquid with CopyHype?

Open @copyhypefamilybot in Telegram, tap Open the app, pick a whale and tap Copy. You start with practice money, so there is nothing to deposit.

  1. Open CopyHype in Telegram. Open @copyhypefamilybot and tap Start. You get $1,000 of practice money, on live prices.
  2. Open the app and look at the whales. The Whales tab shows Hyperliquid's top traders by Profit $ or ROI % over 24h, 7 days and 30 days, with when they last traded. On each whale's page you see Hyperliquid's profit and ROI, what CopyHype copiers made, their trades open now and their last results.
  3. Set your amount. This is how much goes into each copied trade, at least $5 a trade. It is also the most a single trade can lose.
  4. Tap Copy. From now on, the whale's next trades happen for you, with their coin, their direction and their multiplier (capped at x50 and at the coin's maximum), at your amount.
  5. Let it run, or close yourself. When the whale closes, your copy closes. If they take part off, you take the same part off. You can close any trade or stop the copy at any time.

When you want to use real money, switch to Real at the top of the app. You get your own wallet in a couple of taps, add money by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay from $20 (US, EU) or by sending USDT or USDC from Binance or any wallet on BNB Chain, Base, Polygon or Arbitrum, and move it into Hyperliquid in one tap. The wallets guide walks through it.

What happens when the whale trades?

When the whale opens a trade, the same trade opens for you, usually within seconds of it being seen. When the whale exits, you exit. Here is the detail that matters.

The entry

CopyHype watches every copied whale's account in real time. When a new position appears, it opens the same position for everyone copying, at their own amount. Your amount is the margin. The position size is your amount times the whale's multiplier, capped at x50 and at the coin's maximum on Hyperliquid.

Two checks happen first:

  • Has the price already run? If the price has moved more than 2% in the whale's direction since they got in, the copy is skipped. You would start behind, and at x10 a 2% head start is already 20% of your amount.
  • Is the order big enough? Hyperliquid needs at least $10 of position per order. If your amount times the multiplier is below that, the multiplier is raised just enough, within the coin's limit, and the message tells you ("x3 instead of x1").

The exit

  • When the whale closes, your copy closes.
  • When the whale takes part of the position off, you take the same share off.
  • If you set a Stop loss, the trade closes by itself at -30% or -50% of your amount.
  • If you set a Take profit, it closes at +25%, +50% or +100%.

You can also close by hand. Your copy is your trade, not theirs.

How much should I put in each trade?

Start with an amount you are fine losing completely, many times. With leverage, losing the full amount of a trade is normal, not rare.

A useful way to think about it: your wallet should cover many trades at once, and many losses in a row. CopyHype does not cap how many copies you hold. A copy is skipped only when your free money is below your amount. When Predictions are on, perps copies use up to 80% of your money by default, and prediction copies the rest.

Wallet Amount per trade Full losses before half the wallet is gone
$100 $5 10
$200 $10 10
$500 $20 12

These are examples of proportions, not advice. The right amount is the one you can lose without it changing your day.

What does it cost?

Practice is free. With real money, CopyHype takes 0.1% of the trade size when you open and again when you close. Hyperliquid charges its own trading fee on top, and open positions pay or receive funding every hour.

On a $20 copy at x5, the position is $100. CopyHype's fee is 10 cents in and 10 cents out. Hyperliquid's base taker fee is about 4.5 cents each way. The full breakdown is in fees.

What are the risks?

The main risks are leverage, timing and the trader themselves.

  • Leverage cuts both ways. At x10, a 10% move against you wipes out roughly the whole trade. Some whales use x20 or more. Read leverage and liquidation for copiers before you copy one.
  • You arrive later. A copy lands seconds after the whale's trade, at a slightly different price. On a trader who holds for days, that barely matters. On a trader who flips in minutes, it eats the edge. That is why CopyHype keeps very fast traders out of its top list.
  • Whales lose. A great month does not promise a great next month. Some traders run hot and then give it back.
  • Losses add up. Each trade is capped at your amount, but ten losing trades in a row are ten amounts. Set a stop loss, and pause (⏸) or stop (⏹) a whale anytime from their page.

Which habits make the biggest difference?

Practice first, prefer traders who hold, judge on two windows, and copy more than one whale. Six habits in detail:

  • Practice first, on the same whales. Practice uses live prices and the same trading fees, so you see what copying a whale feels like before money is involved.
  • Prefer traders who hold. Someone who keeps positions for hours or days is far easier to copy than someone who trades 40 times a day.
  • Look at 7 days and 30 days together. A big 30-day number with a negative week can mean the run is over. Then check "Last results": a big leaderboard number with little closed profit means the profit is still on paper.
  • Watch the multiplier. The whale's page shows their open positions and multipliers. If x25 makes you nervous, pick another whale.
  • Copy more than one. Two or three whales with different styles smooth things out more than one star.
  • Set your exits. In the copy sheet, pick a stop loss (-30% or -50%) and a take profit (+25%, +50% or +100%), or leave them off and follow the whale all the way.

Frequently asked questions

Can you copy trade on Hyperliquid directly?

Hyperliquid has vaults, where you deposit into a pool that a leader trades. It does not have a button to mirror another account's trades into your own account. To do that, you copy by hand or use a tool that does it for you.

Is Hyperliquid copy trading free?

Practice on CopyHype is free. With real money, CopyHype takes 0.1% of the trade size each way, and Hyperliquid charges its own trading fee. There is no subscription and no share of profits.

What is the minimum to copy a Hyperliquid trader?

At least $5 a trade on CopyHype. Hyperliquid needs $10 of position per order, so at very small amounts the multiplier is raised just enough to reach it.

Does the trader know I am copying them?

No. Copying reads public data from Hyperliquid. The trader is not notified and is not involved. CopyHype is not affiliated with the traders shown.

Can I lose more than my amount?

No. Each copied trade uses only its own margin. If it is liquidated, you lose that trade's amount and nothing else.

Do I need a Hyperliquid account?

No. With real money, CopyHype creates your own wallet, and that wallet is your Hyperliquid account. You never need to visit Hyperliquid's site.
