What is the whale list?
For Perps, the whale list mirrors Hyperliquid's public leaderboard: the top 8 traders over 24 hours, over 7 days and over 30 days, ranked by Profit $ or by ROI %. It is not a paid placement and not a hand-picked list. A trader gets in on numbers and drops out on numbers.
| Window | Ranked by |
|---|---|
| 24h | Profit $ or ROI % over the last 24 hours |
| 7 days | Profit $ or ROI % over the last 7 days |
| 30 days | Profit $ or ROI % over the last 30 days |
Only traders in profit who traded in the last 24 hours make a list. The ROI list takes the traders from the profit lists and sorts them by Hyperliquid's ROI for that window.
The Whales tab in the app has all three windows, with a "Rank by" switch: Profit $ or ROI %. It shows 4 whales, and "See all" shows up to 8. The home page shows the 30-day list, with the whales that are still trading. Any trader outside the lists is one search away in the app, by name or by wallet address.
Where does the data come from?
From Hyperliquid's public leaderboard. Everything on Hyperliquid is public: anyone can look up any address, its positions and its trades.
The leaderboard gives each account's profit, return and volume over a day, a week, a month and all time. Profit there includes open positions at the current price, so it can still move until those trades close. CopyHype reads the leaderboard, keeps the copyable accounts and sorts them by profit or by ROI. The profit and ROI you see are Hyperliquid's own numbers. Nothing is added on top.
Why rank by profit?
Because it is the number Hyperliquid itself shows, and anyone can check it. There is no hidden score to trust.
Profit rewards size: a very large account can top the board with a modest return. That is what the ROI % switch is for: it ranks the same traders by return on their money. Before you copy, open the whale's page in the app. It shows profit and ROI over 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days, what CopyHype copiers made, the trades open now and the last results, so you can see how the profit was made.
Who is left out?
Empty accounts, market makers and traders too fast to copy, because a copy cannot follow them.
- Market makers post buy and sell orders all day and earn the gap between them. CopyHype treats an account as a market maker when its 30-day trading volume is more than 3,000 times its account value. A copy would get thousands of small fills without their edge.
- Empty accounts have nothing left to trade, so there is nothing to copy.
- Traders who open and close in seconds are marked "Too fast". Copies land after them and would lose on fees.
- Traders whose copies lose. When at least 12 CopyHype copies of a trader over 14 days lost money on average, the trader leaves the list.
All of them can sit high on a profit leaderboard. More on why some profits cannot be copied: smart money copy trading.
Why does the home page show the 30-day list?
Because a month says more than a day. One lucky trade can top the 24-hour list. Staying at the top over 30 days takes many trades. The home page shows the 30-day leaders that are still trading, with their 7-day and 24-hour profit when there is one.
How are prediction whales picked?
Hyperliquid has no leaderboard for Predictions, so CopyHype adds up each trader's public bets. Profit is what their bets made after fees, from bets they sold and bets that settled. ROI is that profit divided by the money they spent buying.
A prediction whale must be in profit for the window and have traded in the last 24 hours, the same rule as Perps. Market makers, who bet both sides or trade all day, are left out. The ROI list only counts traders with enough volume: $200 over 24 hours, $1,000 over 7 days, $3,000 over 30 days.
How often does the list change?
About every 10 minutes for Perps, each time CopyHype reads the leaderboard again, and about every 15 minutes for Predictions. A trader who falls out of the top 8 leaves the list; a trader who climbs in joins it.
Copies you already have are not stopped when a whale leaves the list. You decide when to stop.
What does this not promise?
It does not predict the future. Every list looks at the past. A whale at the top this month can have a terrible next week, and profit that includes open trades can shrink before they close. Copying moves decisions to someone else; it does not remove risk.
What helps on your side: copy two or three whales rather than one, keep each trade small (from $5), and practice first with $1,000 of practice money, free for 24 hours plus 24 hours for each invited friend whose first trade opens.
Frequently asked questions
Can a trader pay to be in the whale list?
No. The lists come from Hyperliquid's public leaderboard. There is no paid placement.
Why is a famous trader missing from the list?
Usually because they are not in the top 8 for 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days right now, did not trade in the last 24 hours, or trade in a way a copy cannot follow. You can still search them and copy them.
Does the profit include open trades?
Yes. Hyperliquid's leaderboard counts open positions at the current price, so the profit can go up or down until those trades close.
Do whales know they are copied?
No. You follow a public Hyperliquid account. Whales do not opt in and are not paid.
Can I copy a trader who is not on the list?
Yes. Search a name or paste an address in the Whales tab. If a perps trader is not in our list yet, tap "➕ Add this trader" (up to 5 adds a day). The lists are a starting point, not a limit.
