Short answer
Hyperliquid lists sports outcome markets through HIP-4. At the time of writing, its public market list covered the NFL, the NBA, soccer such as Ligue 1, and League of Legends esports. A match is a question, each possible result is an outcome, and exactly one outcome settles Yes. A Yes share pays $1 if that result happens and $0 if not, so its price is the market's chance. You trade with other people on an order book and can sell during the game. You can lose the amount you put in.
Sports are the oldest prediction market there is. What is new is doing it on Hyperliquid's order book, in the same account as perps, with prices shown as chances instead of bookmaker odds. This guide explains how a match turns into a Hyperliquid market, how to read it, and what to watch out for. It does not tip any team.
Can you bet on sports on Hyperliquid?
Yes, through HIP-4 outcome markets. At the time of writing, Hyperliquid's public market list covered the NFL, the NBA, soccer such as Ligue 1, and League of Legends esports.
On October 18, 2026, that list showed about 365 outcomes in total, sports and crypto prices together. The menu changes every day as games finish and new ones open. Hyperliquid calls these outcome markets rather than bets: you buy shares that pay $1 if a result happens, and you can sell them before the end (>Hyperliquid docs, HIP-4). New to the idea? Start with Hyperliquid prediction markets explained.
How does a sports outcome market work?
A match is a question, each possible result is an outcome, and exactly one outcome settles Yes. Every outcome has its own Yes and No shares.
Hyperliquid's docs define a question as a set of outcomes "where exactly one outcome will settle to Yes, and all others will settle to No" (>Hyperliquid docs, HIP-4). A soccer match has three possible results: a home win, a draw or an away win. As a question, that is three outcomes. When the final whistle blows, the real result settles Yes at $1 and the other two settle at $0.
How do you read the prices on a match?
Each outcome's Yes price is the market's chance of that result. Across one match, the Yes prices add up to about $1. Here is an example with made-up prices.
| Outcome | Yes price | Market's chance | Paid per $1 on Yes, if it happens |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home win | $0.45 | 45% | About $2.22 |
| Draw | $0.27 | 27% | About $3.70 |
| Away win | $0.30 | 30% | About $3.33 |
| Total | $1.02 |
The total is a little over $1 because buyers pay a bit more than the fair price to get filled now. That gap is the spread, and it is part of your cost. Prices here are an example, not a real match. The full math, with decimal odds, is in prediction market odds explained.
How do NFL and NBA markets differ from soccer?
In the NBA a game cannot end in a draw, so a winner market only needs two outcomes. In the NFL, regular season ties are possible but rare, so read how the market handles one. In soccer, the draw is a real result.
This matters for what your share pays. If you buy Yes on a soccer team to win and the match ends in a draw, your Yes settles at $0. Some markets also ask other questions than the winner, for example a total or a margin. Always read the exact question and the rules for overtime, extra time and postponed games before you trade.
What about esports like League of Legends?
Esports markets work the same way: a match is a question with one outcome per possible winner. The catch is the format. Read whether the market is on one game or on the whole series.
League of Legends matches are often played as a series of games. A market on the series winner and a market on game one are different bets with different prices. Rules about technical pauses, remakes or a forfeit also decide what settles Yes, so check them in the market description.
When do sports markets settle?
After the official result, when the market's authorized oracle posts which outcome won. Winning shares then become $1 each, automatically.
Hyperliquid's HIP-4 docs describe settlement as the Yes side settling to 1 or 0 (>Hyperliquid docs, HIP-4). Dwellir's launch write-up describes an authorized oracle posting the result, with an optional dispute window (>Dwellir). So a market can settle a little after the final whistle, not the second it ends.
Can you trade during the game?
Yes, as long as someone on the order book takes the other side. Prices move with every goal, basket or touchdown, and you can sell your shares mid-game at the current price.
That is the big difference from a classic bet slip. If you bought the home win at $0.45 and the home team scores first, the price may jump, and you can sell to lock in part of the gain. It also works the other way: a goal against you can cut your shares' value in seconds. During a game, prices can move faster than you can react, and traders watching quicker feeds will often beat you to the new price.
How is this different from a sportsbook?
A sportsbook sets the odds and takes the other side of your bet. On an order book, other traders set the price and you can sell before the end. The math converts easily.
| Item | Sportsbook | Hyperliquid outcome market |
|---|---|---|
| Who sets the price | The bookmaker | Traders, on the order book |
| Who is on the other side | The bookmaker | Another trader |
| Price shown as | Odds, like 2.50 | A chance, like $0.40 |
| Exit before the end | Sometimes, with cash out | Sell at the current price |
| Most you can lose | Your stake | Your amount |
A Yes price of $0.40 is the same as decimal odds of 2.50: $1 divided by $0.40. We are not saying one is better. They are different structures, with different costs and different rules where you live.
What are the risks of sports predictions?
You can lose the amount you put in. Sports add their own traps on top.
- Betting with your heart. Your favourite team is not more likely to win because you love it.
- Information edges. Injury news and line-ups reach some traders before others.
- Thin markets. A small match may have few buyers, so selling mid-game can cost you.
- Rules surprises. Draws, overtime and postponed games can settle differently from what you expected.
- Legal status. Sports betting is regulated in many countries. See are prediction markets legal.
