Short answer
Hyperliquid lists perps on stocks like Tesla and Nvidia, indices like the S&P 500, and commodities like gold, silver and oil, through HIP-3 markets deployed by outside teams, mainly trade.xyz. You bet on the price going up or down in USDC, without owning the stock. They trade around the clock, but when the real market is closed, prices come from Hyperliquid's own order book with limits on how far they can move. Fees are about twice the usual, and multipliers go up to x20 to x50 depending on the market.
A few years ago, betting on Tesla on a Sunday was impossible. Stock markets closed, and so did your options. On Hyperliquid, perps on stocks, indices, gold and oil now trade around the clock, from the same USDC wallet you use for Bitcoin. This guide explains what these markets are, how their prices work when Wall Street sleeps, and what to watch before you touch one.
Can I trade stocks on Hyperliquid?
Yes, as perps: bets on a stock's price going up or down, settled in USDC, without owning the stock. They come from HIP-3, which lets outside teams launch their own markets on Hyperliquid.
The largest of these teams is trade.xyz. Its markets run under a HIP-3 deployment called xyz, and its docs list US stocks like Tesla, Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Meta and Amazon, Asian names like SK Hynix, Samsung and Hyundai, indices, commodities and currencies (>trade.xyz docs). In some apps you will see these coins with a prefix, like xyz:TSLA, to show which deployer runs them.
You do not get shares, votes or dividends. You get exposure to the price, up or down, with a multiplier.
Which markets are there?
Stocks, stock indices, commodities like gold, silver and oil, and major currencies. The list keeps growing.
| Type | Examples | Max multiplier on trade.xyz |
|---|---|---|
| Indices | S&P 500, a Nasdaq-style index, Japan 225, Korea 200 | x50 S&P 500, x20 to x30 for others |
| Big US stocks | Tesla, Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon | x20 |
| Smaller stocks | Intel, Micron, Palantir, Coinbase, Oracle | x10 |
| Metals | Gold, silver | x25 |
| Energy and others | WTI oil, Brent oil, copper, natural gas | x10 to x20 |
| Currencies | Yen, euro, pound | x50 |
Source: >trade.xyz docs. These limits are the deployer's, and can change. A March 2026 launch of an officially licensed S&P 500 perp was reported to clear over $100 million of daily volume within days (>BlockEden).
How big are these markets?
Big enough to matter: HIP-3 open interest was reported above $2 billion in April 2026, with oil and metals a large share of it. Oil perps on Hyperliquid have had days with billions of dollars of volume.
According to one April 2026 analysis, builder-deployed open interest hit a record of $2.3 billion on April 6, 2026, and on April 9 the two oil perps together traded about $4 billion in 24 hours, more than Bitcoin on Hyperliquid that day (>BlockEden). The same analysis reports that trade.xyz held about 91% of HIP-3 open interest. Treat these numbers as a snapshot: they move fast.
How do prices work when the stock market is closed?
While the real market is open, prices follow outside data. When it closes, the price is driven by Hyperliquid's own order book, with caps on how far it can move. This is the most important thing to understand before trading these markets.
trade.xyz's docs describe it this way. US stocks get outside price data 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, from Sunday evening to Friday evening New York time. Commodities follow their own schedule with a daily one-hour gap. When outside data stops, the oracle moves slowly toward where the order book is trading, and each move is capped. On top of that, "discovery bounds" stop the price from moving more than about 1 divided by the max multiplier from a reference point, for example about 5% for oil at x20, with a limited number of resets (>trade.xyz docs).
What that means for you:
- Weekend prices are a guess by the traders who show up. When the real market opens on Monday, the price can jump to where the world says it is.
- The jump can liquidate you. A position that was fine on Sunday can open Monday far beyond its liquidation price.
- Bounds can delay liquidation. The docs note that while bounds apply, a position whose liquidation price is outside them cannot be liquidated, so the reckoning just comes later.
Why do people trade oil and gold on Hyperliquid on weekends?
Because big venues like CME close on weekends and news does not. When something happens on a Saturday, Hyperliquid is one of the few places to trade it right away.
The April 2026 analysis says weekend volume on oil and metals perps rose 900% in the first quarter of 2026, and that oil perps moved 5% within hours of a weekend military strike while traditional venues were closed (>BlockEden). That is the appeal. It is also the risk: you are trading a price before the main market has had its say.
What do these markets cost?
About twice the fee of regular Hyperliquid perps: 0.09% taker and 0.03% maker at the base tier, unless the market is in growth mode. Growth mode cuts fees by 90% or more on eligible markets.
trade.xyz's fee page says HIP-3 fees are currently 2x the usual fees, split between Hyperliquid and the deployer, and lists 0.090% taker and 0.030% maker at the base tier (>trade.xyz docs, fees). Gold and crypto-linked markets are excluded from growth mode there. Funding is paid hourly like on any Hyperliquid perp. More on all fee layers in Hyperliquid fees explained.
What margin mode do these markets use?
It depends on the market: some allow cross margin, others are isolated only. The main US stocks, the S&P 500, oil, gold and silver are listed as cross margin on trade.xyz.
trade.xyz lists each market as cross or "normal isolated". For example, Tesla, Nvidia, the S&P 500, gold and oil are cross, while natural gas, platinum, copper, Palantir and AMD are isolated (>trade.xyz docs). As a beginner, use isolated wherever you can choose: it keeps one bad weekend from pulling on the rest of your money. See isolated vs cross margin.
What are the risks of stock and commodity perps?
Weekend gaps, leverage, a young market structure, and dependence on one deployer. Each is manageable with small sizes, but none is small.
- Gaps at the open. The real price on Monday can be far from Sunday's.
- High multipliers on calm-looking assets. x50 on an index sounds safe because indices move slowly. A 2% move against you at x50 is a liquidation.
- Concentration. With roughly 91% of HIP-3 open interest at one deployer in April 2026, trouble there would hit most of these markets at once (>BlockEden).
- Deployer powers. Under HIP-3, the deployer sets oracles and limits, and can halt a market and settle positions at the mark price (>Hyperliquid docs, HIP-3).
- No ownership. You hold a price bet, not a share.
Can I trade stocks and gold on CopyHype?
Yes. The Trade tab in CopyHype sorts Hyperliquid perps into categories such as Crypto, Memes, Stocks, Commodities and Indices; stocks, commodities and indices come from HIP-3 markets. You can copy a whale who trades them, or trade them solo, from $5 a trade.
On $1,000 at x5, gold rising 4% is +$200 (+20%) before fees. The rules are the same as on crypto: CopyHype takes 0.1% of the position each way, Hyperliquid adds the market's own fee, each market caps its multiplier, and your amount is the most a trade can lose. Start with $1,000 of practice money on live prices in >@copyhypefamilybot, then go real from your own wallet. Meme coins like PEPE and WIF have their own guide: meme coin perps on Hyperliquid.
Frequently asked questions
Do I own Tesla shares if I trade the Tesla perp on Hyperliquid?
No. You only bet on the price, in USDC. There are no shares, dividends or voting rights.
Can I trade stocks on Hyperliquid on weekends?
Yes, these perps trade around the clock. When the real market is closed, prices come from Hyperliquid's order book with limits, and can jump when the real market opens.
What is the max leverage on Hyperliquid gold?
On trade.xyz's gold market, x25. Silver is also x25, oil x20. Check the market before trading, because limits can change.
Who runs the stock markets on Hyperliquid?
Outside teams called deployers, through HIP-3. trade.xyz is the largest. Hyperliquid provides the engine, the deployer defines the market.
Are HIP-3 fees higher than normal Hyperliquid fees?
Yes, standard HIP-3 fees are about twice the normal perps fees, unless the market runs in growth mode, which cuts them by 90% or more.
Where do these facts come from?
