Short answer

Copy trading means your account automatically makes the same trades as a trader you choose, at an amount you set. As a beginner, start with practice money: CopyHype gives you $1,000 of practice money, free for 24 hours, to copy the best Hyperliquid perps traders on live prices, with the same rules and trading fees, before you use any real money. Keep each trade small, copy two or three traders, and learn what losing streaks feel like.

Trading looks easy from the outside and is hard from the inside. Copy trading is a shortcut: instead of deciding every trade, you choose someone whose trades you follow. It does not remove the risk. It changes the job from "pick trades" to "pick traders and size well". This guide covers the basics in plain words, then shows how to try it with practice money.

What is copy trading?

Copy trading means your account makes the same trades as another trader, automatically, at an amount you set. When they buy, you buy. When they sell, you sell. You keep control of how much each trade uses and when to stop.

You do not give your money to the trader. They do not know you copy them. On Hyperliquid, every trader's moves are public, so an app can read them and repeat them for you.

What words do I need to know?

About a dozen, and none of them is hard. Here they are, as CopyHype uses them.

Word Meaning
Whale A big trader worth following. In CopyHype, the traders you can copy
Copy Follow all of a whale's next trades
Join Take just one of a whale's trades
Amount What you put into each trade. Also the most that trade can lose
Perps Bets that a coin goes up or down, with a multiplier. On Hyperliquid, in USDC
Multiplier (leverage) x5 means a 1% move counts 5% for you, up or down
Long / short A bet the price goes up / down
Liquidation A perps trade closed because it lost nearly all its amount
Profit and ROI A whale's profit and return over 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days, from Hyperliquid's leaderboard. Open trades count
Practice Free practice money on live prices. Nothing real moves
USDC A digital dollar. 1 USDC = $1

How does a copied trade work?

You pick a whale and tap Copy. When the whale opens a trade, the same trade opens for you at your amount. When they exit, you exit.

An example in practice money:

  1. You copy a Hyperliquid whale with $20 a trade.
  2. The whale bets ETH goes up, at x5.
  3. Your copy opens: ETH up, x5, $20. Your position is $100.
  4. ETH rises 3%. Your trade is up about $3 before fees.
  5. The whale closes. Your copy closes. About $23 comes back to your practice wallet, minus fees.

If ETH had dropped 3%, you would be down about $3 instead. If it had dropped 20%, the trade would have lost the whole $20, and no more.

Why start with practice money?

Because the first weeks teach you things that only cost money if you learn them with real money. Practice in CopyHype uses live prices, the same whales, the same rules and the same trading fees. The only difference is that the money is not real.

What practice teaches:

  • What losing streaks feel like. Five losses in a row happen even with good traders.
  • How fast leverage moves. A x20 trade can be up 30% and down 40% in an hour.
  • How a multiplier feels. x5 and x20 on the same coin are two different games.
  • Which whales suit you. Calm ones or wild ones.
  • How fees add up, especially at high multipliers.

Practice lasts 24 hours, plus 24 hours for each friend you invite whose first trade opens. Type /reset in the bot to set practice money back to $1,000.

How do I start?

Open the bot, open the app, read a few whales, set your stop loss and copy two or three of them, all with practice money. Five steps:

  1. Open CopyHype in Telegram. Open >@copyhypefamilybot and tap Start. One bot, one app, one account.
  2. Tap Open the app. You have $1,000 of practice money.
  3. Go to Whales. Look at a few. Read their profit and ROI over 24h, 7 days and 30 days, the 👥 Copiers line, their trades open now and their last results.
  4. Set your exits. Tap "Amount, take profit, stop loss": pick your amount, a take profit (+25%, +50% or +100%) and a stop loss (-30% or -50%), or leave them off and follow the whale all the way.
  5. Tap Copy on two or three whales. Their next trades happen for you. Check back in the evening recap or the app.

How much should I put per trade?

Small enough that losing it ten times in a row would not change anything for you. In practice, try $10 or $20 a trade so you see real numbers move. With real money, start small, from the $5 minimum, and only raise it once you know how your whales behave.

A rule of thumb many traders use: never risk on one trade more than a small slice of what you have set aside for trading.

Which whales should a beginner copy?

Calm ones, who hold for hours or days, trade often enough to judge, and made profit over both 7 and 30 days. On each whale's page, the 30-day profit chart shows how rough their ride is, and "Last results" shows how long they hold.

Look at the multipliers on their open trades too. A whale who makes money at x3 is far easier to live with than one who needs x30. New to perps? Read perps for beginners first, then leverage explained.

What mistakes do beginners make?

Copying the top of the leaderboard, going big too soon, quitting at the bottom and copying only one whale. Most of them are about sizing and patience, not about picking.

  • Copying the top of the leaderboard. The biggest month is often luck. See how to find the best Hyperliquid traders to copy.
  • Going big after a few wins. Two good days are noise.
  • Stopping at the bottom. Quitting after a drawdown locks in the loss.
  • Copying one whale only. One whale is one point of failure.
  • Ignoring fees. Fees follow the position, so high multipliers cost more.
  • Using money they need. Only use what you can lose.

What should my first week look like?

Two calm whales in practice, a close look at your trades, small real amounts only if practice made sense, and a decision on day 7. Practice lasts 24 hours, plus 24 hours for each friend whose first trade opens. Day by day:

Day What to do
1 Open the bot, read three whale pages, copy two calm whales in practice at $20
2 Before practice ends, read your trades. Open each one and look at the price in, the price now and the fees
3 Read leverage and liquidation. Check the multipliers of the whales you copied
4 Decide: try real money at $5 to $10 a trade, or not yet
5 If you went real, copy one calm whale at $5 with a stop loss on, and watch how it moves
6 Stop any whale that makes you uneasy. Notice why
7 Look at your results after fees, trade by trade, in 📜 History

When should I switch to real money?

When you understand why you won and lost in practice, not only that you did. If you can explain your practice results, try real money at $5 to $10 a trade. Switch to Real at the top of the app. You get your own wallet, secured by Privy, that only you can withdraw from. Add money by card in the app, from $20 (US, EU), or send USDT or USDC from Binance or any wallet on BNB Chain, Base, Polygon or Arbitrum. The wallets guide shows each step.

Frequently asked questions

Is copy trading good for beginners?

It can be a gentler start than picking trades yourself, because you lean on someone's track record. But you still carry the full risk of every trade. Start with practice money.

Can I copy trade with $10?

Yes. CopyHype trades start at $5, in practice and real money.

Do I need to understand charts?

No. You need to understand risk: how much each trade can lose, how leverage works, and how to read a trader's record.

Is practice mode really the same as real money?

Same whales, same live prices, same rules, same trading fees. The money is not real, so nothing can be withdrawn. Practice lasts 24 hours, plus 24 hours per friend whose first trade opens.
